My roommate took one look at my fridge and said I was storing my onions wrong
I had a big bag of yellow onions sitting in the crisper drawer for about 3 weeks and they were getting soft and moldy on the bottom. My roommate grabbed one, peeled it, and said onions need air flow and darkness, not a sealed plastic drawer, so now I keep them in a mesh bag on the counter and they last way longer. Does anyone else have a spot in their kitchen that keeps stuff fresh better than the fridge does?
Learned this the hard way too. Kept my onions in the fridge door for a month and they turned into mushy science experiments. Same thing happened with my potatoes, which I found out later should also stay out of the cold. Now I have a little basket in my pantry for onions and taters and they both last way longer. My garlic also sits on the counter in an open bowl instead of the drawer. That one spot changed how I shop since stuff does not rot as fast.
