My roommate told me my 'open container' policy on leftovers is why we toss so much food

She said I leave stuff like half a jar of salsa open in the fridge and it dries out in 2 days, then I blame her for throwing it. Ever since she pointed that out I've been wrapping everything tight and saved about $30 this week on grocery waste.

Hear me out though... maybe the real issue is her throwing things out way too fast. Stuff like salsa I'll eat within a week anyway, and it's still good even if the top gets a little crusty. I've had half a jar of salsa in my fridge for like 5 days and it's totally fine, just stir it up...

Wait, you seriously think crusty dried out salsa is still fine? That stuff gets a weird skin on top that tastes like plastic after a couple days, stirring it back in just mixes the bad flavor through the whole jar lol. I mean $30 saved in a week is legit proof that sealing stuff up works, not really something you can argue with numbers like that. Have you ever actually let a half jar of salsa sit open for a week and then tried to eat it without gagging on the texture?
