My roommate called me out for storing onions next to apples

Turns out apples release ethylene gas that makes onions go bad faster. Changed my whole fridge layout after that.

Honestly that reminds me of the time I kept onions next to potatoes and ended up with a sprouting mess.

Wait actually I think apples are fine next to onions, its more that onions make apples taste weird because they absorb the onion smell. Ethylene gas is more of a thing with bananas and avocados, not really apples.

So wait does that mean keeping apples and onions in the same drawer is fine as long as they're not touching, or is the smell transfer still gonna happen through the air?
