My leftover soup turned into a science experiment after 3 weeks in the back of the fridge
I finally opened that container of lentil soup I forgot about and it had a fuzzy blue layer on top that took me 20 minutes to scrub off the plastic. Has anyone else spent way too long cleaning a container that probably should have just been tossed?

Have you tried just freezing the container with the gunk still in it? I did that once with a nasty tupperware, then after it was solid, I ran it under hot water for a few seconds and all the crud peeled off in one piece like a little iceberg. Worked way better than scrubbing. My experience is that plastic just holds onto stuff once it gets that fuzzy growth, so now I toss any container I forget about for more than a week or two. Your mileage may vary, but that frozen trick saved me a solid 15 minutes of elbow grease.

Freeze a mess on purpose? That just means you've got a block of nasty bacteria sitting in your freezer next to your food. Soak it in hot soapy water for five minutes and call it good, or just toss the thing like you said.
