I used to be team leftovers until a three-week-old casserole turned on me

Opened a container of tuna casserole I'd forgotten about and the smell knocked me back two feet. Now I label everything with the date using masking tape and a sharpie, saves me from guessing games. What's your method for keeping track of what's actually still good?

Yeah I actually read somewhere that the sniff test isn't as reliable as people think. Apparently some bacteria that cause food poisoning don't produce any smell at all, so your nose can't save you from those. That's why I started doing the same masking tape and sharpie thing you do. It's a pain sometimes but way better than playing roulette with your stomach.

Honestly I'm kinda against the whole date labeling thing. I mean sure for stuff like leftovers that you know won't last but half the time I just sniff test or look for mold. Dates just stress me out and make me throw away stuff that's probably fine. Tbh that three week old casserole though that's rough but maybe just trust your nose more than a piece of tape.
