Warning: That $40 plastic rotary brush I bought off Amazon melted inside a hot flue liner after 3 uses

I tried saving money on a chimney sweeping kit from a random seller and the bristles literally fused to the creosote at 350 degrees, leaving a mess I had to chip out with a hand tool for 2 hours, has anyone else had cheap gear fail on a real job?

Buy a decent brand name brush next time and test it against a heat gun or torch first before running it up a hot liner... learned that lesson the hard way myself.

Made that mistake with a cheap hobby store brush my first time trying this. Found out real quick when it started smoking and the bristles curled up like bacon in a hot pan. Now I keep a cheap infrared thermometer nearby and always test my brushes at temp before they go anywhere near a liner. Nothing like the smell of burning nylon to make you feel like a real professional.
