Walked into a pub in Boston with 14 fireplaces and the owner asked me to look at all of them
Stopped into this old pub near Faneuil Hall two weeks back, just for a pint, and the bartender points at the fireplace behind me and goes "you're a sweep, right? that one's been smoking us out on rainy days." So I look at it and it's this tiny little thing, maybe a 1930s insert, and I kid you not, the whole place has 14 fireplaces. Every room, the back hall, even one hidden behind a bookshelf. The owner comes out and starts walking me around like I'm on a tour, asking what I'd charge to sweep every single one. I told him I'd need a full day, maybe two, and he just nods and says "Saturday works." Wildest part is the flues are all original brick with no liners, so I'm already dreading what I'll find up there. Anyway, my question for you all: what's your flat rate when a job balloons from one chimney to fourteen? I quoted per flue and it felt made up on the spot.
