The day a customer's ceiling fan finally made me question my brush angle

After sweeping the same type of fireplace for 12 years in Wichita, a customer asked why their flue still had dark streaks post-clean, and that made me realize I'd been angling my brush upward instead of downward the entire time, so has anyone else had a basic motion they got backwards for years without knowing?
