Got a brick stuck in a flue up in Portland last fall, ended up having to get creative with a magnet and some rope lol

My Gresham neighbor tried that, brick got stuck for good.

That magnet trick is a total disaster waiting to happen. I tried something similar on my chimney in Gresham and the brick just wedged itself tighter. You really need a proper flue cleaning kit with the right brushes and poles. Messing around with rope can damage the liner or leave pieces behind that cause a fire. It's worth the hundred bucks to call a pro and know it's done safe.
