Appreciation post: the bird nest in Bristol that almost cost me a roof climb
Was up on a two story in Bristol on Tuesday, camera showed a packed flue but I did not see the nest until my brush hit it and a wall of soot came back down the pipe. The rod jammed, my hand slipped, and the whole thing felt like it was about to whip loose on me. I climbed down, reset my footing, and pulled the brush back in slow, about an inch at a time, instead of forcing it. Took me 40 minutes to clear what should have been a 10 minute job on a chimney that had not been swept in at least 4 years. Customer tipped me an extra $20 because she said most guys would have just told her it was too far gone. What do you all do when a nest is wedged tight and the rod wants to kick back?
