TIL my kitchen shears can't handle breaking down a whole duck

Last Saturday I was prepping for a special at the restaurant and decided to spatchcock a duck for the first time in a while. I grabbed my regular kitchen shears that I use for herbs and chicken quarters, and they completely locked up halfway through the backbone. I mean, they literally would not budge. I ended up having to hack through the rest with a cleaver and it took me 15 extra minutes. Now I'm shopping for a heavy-duty pair that can handle poultry bones without dying on me. Has anyone else found a brand that actually lasts more than 6 months in a busy kitchen?

Get some Wusthof poultry shears, they last years in my kitchen.

Yeah "last years in my kitchen" is the key there... funny how the expensive stuff just works better over time while the cheap stuff you gotta replace every few months. @sarah_brown you're right on the money with that one.
