Overheard a dishwasher tell a server he knew more about plating than me

I was working a busy Friday dinner service last month when our dishwasher, this kid Miguel who's 19, told a server he could plate desserts better than me because I 'drown things in sauce.' He had a point actually. I've been cutting back on sauces since then and the expo guy even said my plates look cleaner. Has anyone else gotten useful feedback from the dish pit or someone unexpected?

Isn't it funny how the people at the bottom of the totem pole often see the whole picture clearer than the folks calling the shots? I feel like that happens way more often than we admit, whether it's in a kitchen or anywhere else. Sometimes the best advice comes from someone who's got nothing to prove.
