My mandoline slicer caught me off guard and cost me a trip to urgent care last Tuesday

Slicing potatoes for gratin and the guard slipped, took a chunk out of my thumb before I even felt it. Has anyone found a quick first aid trick that actually stops the bleeding fast enough to get back to a busy service?

Oh man, that's brutal! I swear those mandolines are secretly designed by the same people who make cheese graters - they're out to get us. For a quick trick, I've had decent luck with super glue in a pinch, just make sure the cut is clean and dry first. It stops bleeding instantly and holds better than those sticky bandages during a rush. Just don't freak out when it burns for a second, that's normal. And maybe keep a stash of those blue nitrile gloves handy to cover it up so you don't gross out the customers.

And you know, this is just one of those things where cheap tools make life harder than it needs to be. I've noticed that pattern everywhere, not just in kitchens. People buy the cheapest mandoline to save ten bucks, then end up bleeding all over their cutting board. Same with crappy knives or dull scissors, they always cause more trouble. But yeah, super glue is a lifesaver for quick fixes, just don't tell my doctor I said that.
