Heard a line cook say 'salt is salt' and I nearly walked out of the kitchen

Last week at a prep meeting a new guy argued that kosher salt and table salt are the same thing, so I dumped 2 tablespoons of each into separate bowls of water and had him taste the difference, and now he asks me before he seasons anything, so how do you handle cooks who don't get that basic stuff?

Boy, I've been there. I had this roommate once who insisted all vinegars were the same and used balsamic vinegar to clean a coffee stain out of a white rug (you can guess how that went). He just couldn't wrap his head around the idea that different types of something actually matter until he saw the mess himself. Your salt experiment was genius, honestly. Sometimes you gotta let people fail a little before they get it, or at least give them a very obvious taste test so they can't argue anymore.
