Had a line cook pass out from heat at a summer festival in Austin. Our station had zero shade.

Was he okay? That's so scary. I saw a vendor tent collapse from the heat at a fair last year, it's no joke. They really need to give you guys some cover, it's basic safety. Hope your coworker is feeling better now.

Betty's right about how rough it gets. In my experience, the heat just keeps getting worse every year at outdoor events like that. Shah, the guy was okay after a cool down and some water, but it shook everyone up. A buddy of mine ran a barbecue pit at a festival last summer and had three of his crew get lightheaded before noon. It's not just about shade either, proper hydration and rotation breaks need to be part of the plan from the start.
