After burning through three cheap mandolines in a year, I finally bought a $150 Benriner and the difference in speed and clean cuts is like night and day.

Has anyone else made the switch to a pro-grade slicer and found it actually saved you money long term?

Totally get that. Went through two of those flimsy plastic ones that cracked on a potato. The good Japanese one felt like a splurge, but it hasn't even thought about getting dull. It makes prepping a bushel of veggies for pickling actually doable now, so yeah, it probably paid for itself by now just in not buying replacements.
