The $3 clearance bin at the Kroger on Bay Street taught me to shop the day after holidays
I stopped by that store the day after Easter just to grab milk and walked past a cart piled with marked down ham and bags of potatoes for a dollar each. I filled my basket for under $9 and ate like a king for a week, which is more than my usual rice and beans routine. Now I plan my big cooking days around the calendar instead of my paycheck, and I freeze most of it in single servings. A ham bone in a pot of dried beans is about the cheapest flavor you can get. Does anyone else time their shopping around holiday markdowns, and which holiday gives the best deals?
What day do you actually hit the store for those deals, the morning after or later in the day once they start marking stuff down further? Knowing the timing matters more than the holiday itself since I have shown up too early and paid full price. Which holiday has given you the biggest haul so far, Easter or Thanksgiving?
