Shoutout to the $1.50 dried lentils that fed me for 6 dinners in Toledo
I kept buying canned beans at 99 cents a can until I did the math and saw a pound of dried lentils costs less than two cans and makes triple the food. What's your go-to cheap protein that isn't rice and beans again?
I did the same math on eggs a while back and it changed how I shop. A dozen eggs is still one of the cheapest proteins per gram you can get, and you can do a million things with them. Canned tuna is another one, the store brand is like a buck and I mix it with a little mayo and whatever veggies are about to go bad. Plain greek yogurt is also sneaky cheap per serving for the protein you get, I put it in smoothies or just eat it with honey. The big thing for me was buying dried instead of canned wherever it made sense, the price gap is nuts once you actually sit down and compare. Lentils and eggs together got me through a whole broke winter lol
