Serious question, did I waste 2 years buying chicken breast instead of thighs because of one bad batch in 2022?
So for the longest time I bought nothing but boneless skinless chicken breast because I thought dark meat was greasy and cheap tasting. Back in 2022 I grabbed a pack of thighs from the Aldi on High Street here in Columbus and they were fine, nothing wrong with them, but I had one rubbery one and wrote the whole cut off in my head. Then last month my roommate did the grocery run and came back with a 5 pound bag of thighs for $6.99, and I almost made her take it back. I cooked them anyway in a cast iron with just salt, pepper and a little oil, and they came out juicy in a way the breasts never do, plus I wasn't standing there poking a thermometer every two minutes worried about drying them out. Did the math after a few weeks and I'm saving close to $14 a trip since thighs run about $1.40 a pound here versus $3.50 or more for breast. Also the pan sauce from thighs is way better over rice, which matters when rice and frozen veggies are most of what I eat. Has anyone else had a cut of meat they avoided for years because of one bad experience, or is that just me being stubborn?
Had the same thing happen with pork chops after one dry, tough batch my dad grilled back in high school. Years later I tried a thick cut one cooked low and slow and it was a totally different meal, so I get where you're coming from. One bad night in the kitchen can mess up your head about a food for way too long.
