Can we talk about the time my $1.50 bag of rice turned into concrete in a motel sink?
Two years ago I was crashing at a motel in Bakersfield and tried to rinse a big bag of cheap rice in the bathroom sink because the kitchenette had no strainer. I dumped the whole thing in and the drain clogged instantly, so I stood there scooping wet rice out with a plastic cup from the ice machine while the sink slowly filled up. Ended up cooking that rice in a coffee pot one cup at a time and it tasted fine, but I lost maybe a third of the bag to the drain. Now I rinse rice in a clean dish towel and twist the top, no sink involved. What's your go to trick for washing rice when you don't have a strainer?
