TIL my emergency cash stash is not squirrel-proof

Went to grab my backup $200 from the old coffee can in the garage yesterday and found a family of chipmunks had shredded half of it for a nest, so now I'm asking if anyone has a better spot for hiding cash that isn't also prime rodent real estate.

My buddy kept his in a sealed ammo can in the basement. Worked until his sump pump failed and it floated away.

That "sealed ammo can" is a perfect example of solving one problem but missing the bigger one. People focus so hard on keeping things dry inside the box, they forget about the room the box is in. It's like putting a band-aid on a broken pipe.

That sump pump failure is the worst kind of bad luck. You do everything right with the sealed container, then the whole room turns into a pool. I've seen a plastic tote full of camping gear just bob right out a basement window once. Water finds a way to wreck your day.
