TIL I stopped using my debit card for gas after watching my bank account for 2 months
I used to swipe my debit card at the pump every single time. Never thought twice about it. Then back in April I started writing down each fill up in a little notebook I keep in the glove box. Just the date and the dollar amount. After 8 weeks I had 14 fill ups written down and the numbers were all over the place. Some weeks I'd spend $52 on gas, other weeks it was $78, and I had no clue why. When I switched to cash I started pulling out $40 on Sundays and that was it for the car. Having a hard limit made me combine trips and stop taking the long way home. Last month I spent $156 total on gas versus $241 in May. Has anyone else set a weekly cash cap for gas and actually stuck to it?
