The guy at the hardware store in Tucson asked me why I was paying with a card and I didn't have an answer
I was buying a $12 box of screws at a True Value on Speedway last month and pulled out my debit card out of habit. The older guy at the register looked at it, then at me, and said "you know that little tap costs the store about 30 cents every time, right?" I just stood there. He wasn't rude about it, he was almost laughing, like he'd been waiting all day to tell someone. I told him I never really thought about it and he said in all his years behind that counter, the cash customers were the ones who knew exactly what they came in for. That stuck with me the whole drive home. I started pulling $60 out every Friday and leaving the card in a drawer, and it's wild how much more careful I am about small stuff now. Any of you ever have a cashier say something that flipped a switch for you like that?
