I realized I was just tapping my phone without thinking at the cafe near my office, but now I physically see the money leave my wallet and it makes me pause and ask if I really need that third latte.
My car's gas light came on last week and I had to walk home because my twenty bucks was already a memory of two fancy coffees and a muffin. It was a pretty clear lesson in why my system is a mess. I'm basically just trading one dumb problem for another, forgetting that emergencies exist. The walk was good, though, my wallet felt lighter but my legs sure didn't.
I mean yeah gas is a thing but it's not like you're gonna be stranded forever, someone will spot you a ride or you can just borrow five bucks. Feels like people blow these little setbacks way out of proportion.
