Overheard a guy say cards keep him honest with spending

I was at a diner in Pittsburgh last Tuesday and this guy next to me told his buddy that credit card points make him overspend by $200 a month, so he went back to cash envelopes. That hit home because I did the exact same thing, I thought I was gaming the system but the cash just disappears faster when I can see it leaving my wallet. Anyone else find that carrying actual bills makes them second guess impulse buys way more than tapping a card ever did?
