My grocery bill went from $140 to $96 a week once I started paying cash only
I started pulling my weekly grocery money out in cash about 3 months ago, $120 in twenties every Sunday. The first two weeks I still spent about $140 because I was swiping my debit card for whatever I forgot to grab. Once I got strict and just left the cards at home, my average dropped to $96 a week at the Kroger on Lamar here in Austin. I think it's because I actually see the money leaving my hand, so I skip the $7 fancy cheese and the impulse stuff near the register. My last receipt was $94.12 and I still had $18 left in my wallet for gas. Has anyone else seen their food budget drop like this just from going cash, or is it just me paying more attention?
