My dad told me to keep a $100 bill folded up in my phone case for emergencies...

I laughed at first, but last month my card got declined at a gas station outside Flagstaff and that cash got me home. What's the biggest 'just in case' cash stash you keep on you?

Damn, that's smart. I've got a twenty tucked in my wallet behind my cards that's saved me a few times for parking or a coffee. But a whole hundred? That's next level. Makes me wonder, do you actually replace it right away after you spend it, or do you forget for months like I would?

Hid a fifty in an old sock once, forgot about it, then panicked thinking I'd lost it. Found it two years later when I was moving and treated myself to a really fancy pizza. That's the thing about emergency cash, you either forget it exists or you spend it on something dumb like a gas station hot dog because you're hangry. My biggest stash right now is a crumpled twenty in my glove compartment that's been there since 2019 and smells faintly of old french fries.

Honestly seems like overkill for most people. A hundred bucks is a lot to just forget about in your phone. What kind of emergency needs that much physical cash these days? Most places take cards, and if your card fails you can usually use your phone to pay. That money could just be sitting there for years doing nothing.
