My cash envelope system for groceries in Austin

I used to just swipe my card at the store and never really knew where the money went. Now I pull out $200 every two weeks in cash and split it into envelopes for produce, meat, and pantry stuff. Seeing the actual money leave my hand makes me think twice about adding that extra bag of chips, you know? Anyone else find they waste less food when they pay with cash?

Oh totally, cash is a game changer. I started doing the same thing and I swear my fridge has never been so empty by the end of the week. It just hits different when you hand over the bills.

Honestly I've tried the cash envelope thing and it just stressed me out more. I always forgot to bring the right envelope or ended up needing something from a different category. Swiping my card lets me track every single purchase in my banking app, which feels way more exact than guessing where my cash went. For me, the real key is checking my spending online every few days to catch bad habits early.
