My car battery died in a small town with only a cash-only auto shop
I had exactly $87 in my wallet, which covered the new battery but left me with nothing for lunch. Has anyone else been in a tight spot where having cash forced a different choice?

Totally feel that, had to skip a meal once to cover a cash-only parking ticket.

Skipping a meal to pay a ticket is such a raw example of how these fines hit people. It's not just the money, it's the real life cost. Do you think cities know that a "small" ticket forces those kinds of choices, or do they just not care?

That exact thing happened to me last month, @williamschmidt. I had a twenty dollar ticket from a meter maid downtown. It messed up my whole budget for the week and I ate a lot of plain rice. It's a terrible feeling when a small mistake costs so much.
