I started keeping a $40 bill in my wallet and it fixed my whole week
Last Tuesday I pulled out my wallet at the farmer's market on 5th and only had a $40 bill. No cards on me, not by choice, just forgot the debit card at home. I bought eggs for $6, tomatoes for $4, and a loaf of bread for $8, and the guy gave me change from a beat up cash box. Watching the bills go down one by one made me slow down. Usually I would tap a card three times and never think about it. Now I keep two $20s folded in the back of my wallet as a buffer. Has anyone else tried the envelope thing but with just one bill as a speed bump?
