I finally hit a moral snag with my cash-only routine
I was getting a haircut and my barber offered a cheaper price if I paid cash. Part of me thinks it's fine because I save money and he avoids card fees. But another part wonders if this helps him skip out on taxes, which isn't right. I mean, I want to support small businesses, but idk where to draw the line. It's like a discount for cash feels good until you think about the bigger picture. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of thing? How do you handle it?

aaron_foster20 has a point about card fees, but a finance blog I read said cash discounts OFTEN do mean unreported income. That tax money pays for stuff we all use, so it bothers me. The discount is nice but it feels shortsighted.

Yeah that "unreported income" part is what gets me too. I just pay the full price with a card now, like aaron_foster20 said the fees are real but at least it's all above board.

Ever think that discount might just cover the card fees he'd lose? Not every cash deal is about taxes, sometimes it's just the cost of doing business.
