Hot take: I mocked the cash budget thing for years, but it actually works.

I thought it was too much trouble to carry physical money. Now I'm stuck with it because it stopped my online shopping habit, go figure.

Right? @parkerm56 gets it, that physical limit is brutal. My wallet's emptiness finally made me stop the dumb subscriptions.

Honestly SAME, I was the biggest hater for so long. That digital money just feels fake, you know? Swiping or clicking never hurts until the statement comes. Forced myself to try the envelope thing for groceries and fun money last month, and wow. Actually handing over cash makes the spending feel SO real, it totally changes your brain. Sticking to it now because my late night Amazon adventures are basically dead. Such a simple trick but a total game changer.

My old smug self thought I was too smart for cash envelopes. Ngl, the first week I had to put back a fancy cheese because my 'groceries' envelope was empty was a real wake-up call. Now my 'fun money' is just a sad twenty dollar bill that stops me from ordering takeout three times a week. It turns out my biggest financial enemy was just me and my one-click buying.
