Heard a guy at the grocery store say he missed when cash was normal

I was in line at the Piggly Wiggly on Broad Street last Tuesday. Guy in front of me paid with a twenty and the cashier had to count his change twice because she wasn't used to it. He turned to me and said I miss when this was just how everyone paid. Honestly got me thinking about how even simple stuff like getting change back feels foreign to people now. Anyone else get comments like that when you pull out cash?

Did you see that article about how cash is actually better for budgeting because you physically see the money leaving your hand? I read something about people who use cash tend to spend less than swipe-and-forget types.

My aunt keeps a shoebox under her bed with cash for groceries, and she swears she spends maybe 30% less than when she used her debit card... do you think the people using cash these days actually plan it out or is it just force of habit for them?
