A note from my landlord about the envelope system
My landlord saw me counting out rent at the kitchen table and said 'you're doing it the hard way'... turns out she meant I should put every bill's cash into its own labeled envelope on the 1st, not just wing it. Been 2 months now and I haven't missed a single due date, has anyone else tried the multi-envelope trick for irregular bills like water or electric?

Hold on, is the landlord the one who should be giving out financial advice? You're basically paying her to live there, so maybe take that one with a grain of salt. But yeah, the labeled envelope thing works great for the variable stuff, just don't forget to write the due dates on the outside too.
