A guy at a swap meet in Toledo laughed at my zip ties and I rebuilt my whole wiring harness because of it
Bought a 1987 F-150 for $800 last fall and the wiring under the dash was a rat's nest of twisted wires and electrical tape. I was proud of my zip tie job holding everything together, felt real tidy. Then a guy at the Toledo swap meet peeked under my dash for two seconds and said "son, zip ties don't fix a short, they just make it prettier when it burns." Hurt my feelings but he was right. Two weeks later my headlights flickered and died on a country road at night and I had to limp home with a flashlight taped to the hood. Ripped out every zip tie the next morning and redid the whole harness with proper crimp connectors and heat shrink, took me about 11 hours across two days. Turns out three of my splices were barely touching and one was a fire waiting to happen. Now I look under dashes at car shows and cringe at my old work. Anybody else get roasted into doing a job right?
