Just realized the $900 Honda folks on here brag about usually need another $1,500 I never see mentioned
Picked up a 1997 Civic for $800 back in April near Toledo and the timing belt, tires, and brakes ate another $1,600 before it was road worthy. Anyone else wish the cheap car crowd would post the real out the door number instead of just the sticker?
My brother bought a $700 Civic in Cleveland and spent $400 just getting it to pass Ohio e-check, which nobody ever talks about either. The part that gets me is the cheap car crowd never counts their own time. My brother burned three weekends in his buddy's garage, and if you paid a shop for that labor it would be another grand easy. So the real out the door number on his car was closer to $2,500 when you add it all up. The sticker price is basically fiction for any car over 20 years old.
