DAE hear a guy at the salvage yard in Toledo say never pay more than $400 for a motor with no compression test?
He handed me a $35 tester right there and I found out the $350 Civic engine I was about to buy had two dead cylinders. What do you all check first when you're buying a used motor out of a pull it yourself lot?
Did you pull the plugs and crank it by hand before handing over any cash? A $35 tester saves you way more than it costs, but turning the crank and feeling for even resistance tells you a lot in five seconds. What else did that salvage yard guy tell you to look for?
