The way my trunk seal drains water is just... backwards

Had my Honda Civic for about 6 years now and every time it rained I'd find a puddle in the spare tire well. Finally took it to a mechanic last month and he just poked his finger at the rubber seal and showed me the drain holes were pointing up instead of down. Has anyone else had a car where the factory just installed something completely upside down?

To a lot of manufacturers these days, it's like they forget simple things like gravity still works. In my experience, this kind of backwards thinking shows up way more than it should. Take the way they put outlets in some houses, for example, where the ground plug points up and stuff falls right into it. Or phone chargers where the bendable part gets stressed because the cord comes out at a weird angle. So yeah, I've seen this pattern a lot. It's like nobody at the factory ever takes a step back and goes "wait, does this actually work in the real world?" Your mileage may vary, but it feels like common sense is a dying art in design.

Wait, the drain holes were literally pointing up?
