Picked the cheap alternator rebuild kit. Big mistake.
Had a 2003 Toyota Camry that needed an alternator. I chose the $30 rebuild kit from AutoZone instead of a $180 reman unit from Napa. Lasted exactly 3 weeks before the bearings started screaming, now I'm pulling the whole thing out again. Anybody else learn this lesson the hard way too?

Did you check the brushes and slip rings before you put that kit in? I made that exact mistake on my 99 Camry and the bearings went bad because I skipped cleaning the rotor shaft properly. Gotta hit those contact points with some fine grit sandpaper or the new bearings just wear uneven right away.
