My old Ford Ranger's clutch cable snapped on I-40 just outside Amarillo at 2am

I coasted into a rest stop with no clutch and had to double clutch it all the way to an AutoZone that didn't open until 8am, has anyone else had to jury-rig a repair with zip ties just to get home?

Oh man, that is brutal. I have so much sympathy for you sitting in that rest stop watching the clock tick by. I've been there with a car that just decided to quit on me at the worst possible time, and it really makes you feel stranded. Double clutching across town at 2 in the morning sounds like a nightmare, honestly. Hope you got that cable fixed without too much more hassle.

Gotta push back a little here @bettyh84, I mean honestly a dead battery at a rest stop sounds like a dream compared to what happened to me. My car didn't just quit, it started smoking and making this grinding noise that I still hear in my nightmares. I'd take sitting around watching the clock over standing on the shoulder of a highway at 3am hoping a tow truck shows up before a semi turns me into a pancake. Double clutching across town at least means you're moving, you know? Stranded is when you're stuck in one spot with no idea if help is coming. Maybe I'm just unlucky but I think broken down at speed is way worse than broken down already stopped.
