Conversation with a retired mechanic made me think about old Ford trucks differently
He told me the 7.3 Powerstroke was great but the rest of the truck around it was built to fall apart in 10 years, which hit different because I just spent $3,200 on rust repair for my 2002 F-250... has anyone else noticed the engine outlasts everything else on these?

Drove an '04 6.0 for years and the engine was a tank, but I swear the brake lines and wiring harness rotted out before the warranty expired. Rust is basically the only thing that'll kill these things.

What nobody talks about is how the 6.0's high pressure oil system can actually mask early rust problems. The engine keeps running smooth until sudden line failure on a trail, then you're stranded.
