Bought a 2003 Mini Cooper S instead of a Honda Civic Si in 2015

I had to pick between a used 2003 Mini Cooper S with 90k miles or a 2006 Civic Si with 120k miles. Both were around $6,000. I went with the Mini cause it felt more fun to drive. Six months later the supercharger coupler grenaded and the transmission started grinding third gear. Should have just bought the Honda and saved myself $2,200 in repairs. Anybody else make a bad call between two cars and regret it hard?

Honestly the Mini was always a ticking time bomb with those supercharger issues. Idk why people act like German cars are reliable just because they're "premium" when the parts are way more expensive. Civic Si woulda just needed basic maintenance and kept going forever.

Wow yeah you might be right about that. I used to think German cars were just built better because of the premium price tag and all that. But honestly seeing how much people spend chasing down supercharger problems on those Minis makes me reconsider everything. The Civic Si just keeps going with basic oil changes and timing belts while the Mini needs expensive specialized work every other year. Kinda makes you wonder if the premium is actually paying for headaches instead of quality.
