Warning: A guy at the Riverside Cars and Coffee told me his Miata has 312,000 miles on the stock motor, so I checked mine out of spite
I always figured 150k was the death sentence for a daily, but hearing that from someone who drives his to the same Saturday meet in Riverside every single time made me pop my hood and look up my own odometer for the first time in two years, and now I want to know what the highest mileage car in your regular meet is.
The "checked mine out of spite" part got me because I did the exact same thing last month and then immediately wished I hadn't. My daily has 208k on it and I was feeling pretty good about myself until a kid rolled up in a Civic with 389k on the original motor and a trunk full of spare parts. Meanwhile my check engine light has been on so long it burned out, which honestly saves me the worry now. The thing about these high mileage guys is they all say the same stuff, oil changes on time, fix the small stuff before it grows, and never sell the car. Mine has been "for sale" in my head about six times this year alone. I still daily it because a car payment sounds worse than a weird rattle that comes and goes.
