I used to think those $5 windshield sun shades were junk until a guy at the Dallas meet showed me his trick
I always parked my car at the back of the lot at cars and coffee to keep it away from door dings, but the Texas sun still cooked my dash and my seats got so hot I could barely sit down for the drive home. I figured cheap sun shades were all the same, flimsy foil that falls apart after two uses, so I just dealt with it. Then a guy with a clean 350Z at the Dallas meet last weekend saw me complaining and pulled out this $5 shade from Walmart. The trick was simple: he cut it about an inch bigger on each side and wedged it between the glass and the trim instead of using the visors. No sagging, no gaps, and it stayed put even with the windows cracked. I tried it on my car the same day and my seats were actually cool to the touch after sitting out for three hours. My dash temp with an IR gun dropped from 148 to 111. I still can't believe I ignored this for years. Does anyone else have a cheap fix like this that actually holds up at meets?
