Vent: I just found out from a supplier that the average carpet roll loses about 2% of its width over the first 24 hours after being unrolled.
He said it's from the tension release, which explains why my cuts on a big open plan in Dallas yesterday were a quarter inch short on the second day.

Ever notice how everything in construction seems to have its own secret shrinkage rule? I had a vinyl plank job where the client swore the floor grew a gap overnight, but it was just the material settling in. Makes you double-check every spec sheet now, doesn't it?

My laminate floor did that exact thing last winter.

Yeah, that "secret shrinkage rule" thing is so true. It's like every material has its own mood depending on the weather. Makes you wonder if half the specs are just guesses.
