The high school gym job that changed my tack strip approach

I was doing a 4,000 square foot basketball court in Toledo last spring and the old carpet was glued direct, not stretched, so I had to rip it all out and start fresh. The floor had these uneven expansion joints that made my usual tack strip layout sit crooked, and after two hours of fighting it I just screwed the strip down with concrete nails and moved on. Anyone else deal with slabs that are too rough for standard tack strips, or did I just stumble into a bad subfloor situation?

Guessing you’ve never met a concrete slab that just doesn’t cooperate? It happens way more than people think. Honestly though, you found a fix that worked, so what’s the big deal?
