Showerthought: watched a 20 year old Berber in a rental come back to life with just a rake and a good clean
Was doing a tear out in a duplex over on Maple Street last week and the landlord almost had me rip up the living room carpet just because it looked flat and gray. I told him to hold off and ran a carpet rake through it first, then hit it with the vac a few passes. The difference was nuts. That pile stood back up and the matted traffic lanes basically disappeared, and keep in mind this stuff was put down when the place was built back in 2004. Turned out most of the problem was just dirt packed down at the base of the fibers plus years of furniture sitting in the same spot. He ended up saving about $900 on replacement and just had me restretch one loose corner instead. I keep thinking about how many jobs I've quoted new carpet on when a rake and some elbow grease would've done it. Any of you got a go-to trick for reviving matted pile that doesn't involve selling the customer a whole new floor?
