Rant: I always thought a carpet stretcher was just for big rooms

I was reading an old trade magazine from 1998 in a waiting room and it said a power stretcher can add 5 years to a carpet's life even in a 10x12 space. I've been knee-kicking small jobs for a decade. Do you guys always break out the big stretcher, or just for the large areas?

Reminds me of how people stick with the simple way of doing things just because it's what they know. Even when there's a better tool for the job, they don't want to change their routine.

Actually, that 1998 advice is a bit off. A power stretcher can definitely stretch a carpet too tight in a small room, causing other problems. The knee kicker is still the right tool for most smaller spaces, lol.

Man, that article would have saved you a lot of knee pain. I always use the power stretcher now, even on smaller rooms. It just does a better job.
