Pro tip: stop stretching carpet over old tack strip, or am I wrong here?

Did a 12x14 room in Phoenix last week where the homeowner wanted me to reuse the existing tack strip to save a few bucks, and it popped loose on two walls within 3 days. I get that new strip adds cost and time, but is reusing old strip ever actually worth it, or should I just refuse the job next time?
