Had a chat with a commercial painter that changed how I handle drop cloths

Was working a job in a downtown office building last Wednesday and the painter on the floor above came down to borrow some tape. He mentioned he always uses rosin paper under his canvas tarps to catch the dust that sneaks through. Tried it on a 1200 square foot carpet job yesterday and it saved me a ton of cleanup time. Anyone else got weird crossover tips from other trades?

That rosin paper trick is smart, never thought of that. Different angle though, have you tried using the cardboard tubes from inside carpet rolls as makeshift wire organizers? I save a bunch of them and cut them to length for keeping extension cords and air hoses separate on a truck or in a van. Way cheaper than buying those plastic cord wraps and they work just as good if you label them with a marker. Saves me from untangling a mess every time I need to set up on a new floor.

Wait, you had a commercial painter just walk down and share that? That's awesome. I get how rare that kind of crossover is. Most trades keep their tricks close to the vest. I had a drywall finisher once tell me to use a damp sponge on my knife instead of wiping it dry. Saved me so much time on texture work. Feels good when someone just passes along a real tip like that.
